Reliance Communications is learnt to have begun talks with strategic and financial investors for selling five per cent stake in its tower unit prior to the planned initial public offering.
Banking sources with direct knowledge of the development said the company was hoping to raise about Rs 2,500 crore from the proposed sale. J M Financials is the lead manager of the talks with a host of co-lead managers like J P Morgan, Enam Financials, Duetsche Bank, ICICI Securities and HSBC.
A company spokesperson declined to comment on the issue citing SEBI guidelines. Read more…

EVANSVILLE ? Contractors wanting to work on Evansville’s Downtown arena packed a room of the C.K. Newsome Center on Wednesday to learn how they could make money by helping the city reach its goal of employing businesses owned by minorities or women.

Wayne Washington attended to better the chances that his firm, Facility Management and Engineering, will get to work on the arena. Local officials have said they want to see 14 percent of the money allocated for that project go to businesses owned by minorities and 7 percent to businesses owned by women.

Washington said his company, which is registered as a minority-owned business in Indiana, will compete to supply drywall for the arena. He said the firm, which employs about 30 workers, has seen mixed results when it has bid on public projects in the past.

Do people start businesses more frequently as a result of recessions? You might think so, but a new study just released by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation suggests otherwise.

The study Exploring Firm Formation: Why Is the Number of New Firms Constant? shows that the level of new firm formation has remained virtually consistent from year to year for more than 30 years.

Authors Dane Stangler and Paul Kedrosky of the Kauffman Foundation researched several types of data on company formation, beginning in 1977. These included employer firms as tracked by the U.S.
