Richard Rodriguez, owner of Calidad Environmental Services Inc., of Robstown, has been named the 8(a) Graduate of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Lower Rio Grande Valley District.

The award was given out Wednesday at a ceremony at the district office in Harlingen.

The SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program helps small businesses that are at least 51 percent owned and controlled by people from socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Norman McBride plans to retire on Sept. 28. McBride, 64, lives in Kingsville and plans to move to Colorado. He’s held the post at Spohn Kleberg since 2009.

New appointment, promotion at HDR

Joaquin Ruiz has joined the staff as an IT support specialist at HDR Engineering’s Corpus Christi office.
